From September 2014 all pupils in reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in state-funded schools in England are entitled to a free school meal (FSM).
Although every child is entitled to a free school meal it is important to apply if you think you are entitled as there may be additional funding to support your child’s learning and it will ensure your child continues to receive a Free School Meal when they are in Key Stage 2.
Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
If you think you may qualify for support ask in the office for a free school meals application form or you can click on this link and find out if you qualify.
