Welcome to Year 1.

Our Year 1 teacher is Ms Entwistle, who is supported by Miss Rosales and Miss Tyldesley.

In Year 1 we follow the Key Stage One curriculum.  Please see the half termly overview to look at our learning at the moment.

As they did in Reception, children in Year 1 will continue to bring home reading books which match what they are being taught in phonics teaching sessions.  They will be able to read these books by blending the phonemes they already know.  They will continue to bring home books that are phonetically plausible until they are confident and secure.

Children in Year 1 will take the Phonics Screening Test in June 2026. Please ensure no holidays are booked in this period.

Class Routines

Reading books

Children should bring their reading books to school everyday so that we can read with your child. Once your child has read their book, they will take a quiz and change their book.  When you have read with your child at home please sign their reading record, so we know they have read.

Phonics

As they did in Reception, children in Year 1 will continue to bring home reading books which match what they are being taught in phonics teaching sessions. The phonics scheme we follow is Read Write Inc.

PE

Children should attend school in their PE kits every Monday and Tuesday.
